All too often, I’m called in after a crisis, such as mom having a stroke and lying on the floor for two days, or finding dad on the bathroom floor in the morning because he slipped and fell in the middle of the night. As their advocate, I became a trusted resource for extended family and friends who were going through the same experience with their aging loved ones. I bring that empathy and first-hand understanding of the challenges facing seniors, families and caregivers, to my role as a Senior Safety Specialist for Electronic Caregiver. My passion is helping seniors preserve their independence and dignity, by using the latest technology developed specifically for their needs and for those who have the privilege of caring for them.

Why I LOVE what I do...

When I learned that 18 hours is the average length of time someone goes without help after a fall, I was shocked. My mom was “lucky” when she fell because she was on the floor for about 4 hours, with a broken hip and a shattered shoulder. If you call that lucky, but it could have been even worse for her. 

Being in agony, she could not move an inch to reach a phone to call for help. Would my mom have worn a wrist pendant if we had discussed it with her? I’ll never know for sure because we didn’t even think to have the conversation about it. She was pretty stubborn, so my guess is no. 

One of the reasons she and others might be resistant to using personal emergency devices is because years of “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” ads have created a stigma about growing older and needing help.
